RARE BASIC INTRODUCE OUR 100% RECYCLABLE MANNEQUINS TO BRAND NEW HOUSE OF FRASER STORE…
House of Fraser has opened its first sustainable store at the Rushden Lakes shopping and leisure complex in Northamptonshire this August. Rare Basic worked closely with the visual team at House of Fraser to supply mannequins that fitted the ethos of Rushden Lakes – recyclable, eco-friendly and fashionable mannequins. Mixing finishes and fabrics the mannequins created were unique in their appeal. The store architecture and interior is designed to connect with the beautiful natural setting, including a living wall which is home to more than 2,000 indoor plants. There is also a stunning bird art installation in the central atrium above the living wall, which features local bird species and has been designed by RSPB award winning artist Cecilia Smith.
Dr Dorothy Maxwell, head of sustainability at House of Fraser, said: “We’re proud to be opening our first green store in such a beautiful natural setting. The 64,000 sq ft store, which cost £12m to build, is the first House of Fraser to open in the UK in nine years, and its first in an out-of-town retail development. The store is part of the new £140m Rushden Lakes complex in Northamptonshire. Rushden Lakes is surrounded by 200 acres of wetlands, managed by The Wildlife Trust.
As a project the green elements of Rushden Lake’s leant themselves perfectly to the Rare Basic & IDW ethos. Our mannequins are 100% recyclable. They are not made from fibre glass that will end up in land fill. Rare Basic understands that if we’re going to supply a more environmentally friendly product, we need them to be manufactured in a more environmentally responsible way. With production in Europe we ensure that the carbon foot print of our mannequins is as little as possible. In addition to working in recycled material we continually look to improve the life cycle of our product and search for ways to reduce our environmental footprint.
